Methodical aspects of development of scientific and pedagogical workers’ foreign language competence

Abstract

The concept of «scientific and pedagogical workers’ foreign language competence» is clarified in the article, the components and the methodological aspects of its development are highlighted. The basic organizational principles of development of scientific and pedagogical workers’ foreign language competence are determined. Among them, there are the principle of speech-thinking activity and independence, the principle of complexity, the principle of mastering foreign language culture through communication, and life-long learning principle. The development of all components of foreign language competence is proved to allow the scientific and pedagogical workers to use foreign language effectively in his or her own professional activity, self-development and self-education as well as to carry out intercultural and interpersonal communication with the representatives of other countries.

Guidelines for teachers and developers of foreign language curricula for professional communication are provided. The importance of the principle «culture through language, language through culture» during the teaching of foreign languages is emphasized. The requirements for the tasks, which should take into account the most important aspects of the modern international academic environment, are specified, the examples are given.
