The main tasks of any high educational establishment are to encourage its learners to work independently with educational material, to assimilate it, and then skillfully applied in practice or in the life. Individual and creative way of thinking is very important for improving the competitiveness of future specialists in the global labor market through the development of their own and professional skills. The increasing of the students’ independence can be realized only through the competent organization of self-study work in the classroom and during out-of-class time, taking into account its main constituent aspects, namely: forms, tasks and principles. This article contains theoretical and practical justification of the importance and feasibility of self-study work applying in the classroom and during out-of-class time with educational material. The examples of methodological techniques and tasks of the article were applied by the authors. This experience proves that forms, tasks and principles of self-study work when learning a foreign language teaches students of non-linguistic universities to be independent, creative and highly motivated in the formation of an educated person.
